Jersey Shore Shark Attack Trailer: The Worst (Best) Film of All Time?

Jersey Shore is all the rage these days. Ditto shark attack movies.

With that in mind, the geniuses at Syfy decided to blend the two phenomena, and the result is this amazing cinematic achievement premiering June 9.

The title Jersey Shore Shark Attack really speaks for itself, but you need to watch the trailer below to see Garden State preparing to be eaten alive:

Syfy's hilariously official synopsis for the movie - which even features a cameo from Jersey Shore's own Vinny Guadagnino - is as follows:

"Many years ago, hundreds of locals and tourists were massacred by giant man-eating sharks in the infamous 1916 Jersey Shore attacks."

"But that's just a legend... or is it?"

"It's a holiday weekend on the Jersey Shore and, unbeknownst to anyone, underwater drills have attracted dozens of albino bull sharks to the pier."

"When a man goes missing, TC (The Complication), Nookie and friends fear the worst and plead with the police chief to close down the beach."

"It isn't until a famous singer is eaten alive during a performance on the pier that a shark hunt begins. Now, the Preppies must work together with the Guidos in order to save the Jersey Shore and its inhabitants from another vicious slaughter."

insurance hidden valley ca Every year, more cars and drivers travel the highways. With countless vehicles on the road, accidents will happen. Automobile insurance can be the difference between a small setback and a major hassle. How can you decide what insurance you require and how to buy it? Auto insurance protects you by paying for damage caused to your car or another person?s car and injury to others, yourself, or your passengers, plus certain other occurrences, such as theft. Every state and province mandates car insurance by law. Choosing to drive without insurance could cause you to repair or replace a stolen or damaged vehicle or pay the cost of any damage for which you might be responsible. Pays for damages due to bodily injury and property damage to others for which you are responsible. Bodily injury damages include medical expenses, lost wages and pain and suffering. Property damage includes damaged property and loss of use of property. It also covers your defense and court costs if you are sued. Higher recommended insurances are available that cover more than the lower, state-mandated insurance. Personal injury protection: This is required in some states and is optional in others. Sometimes referred to as no-fault coverage, this pays the medical treatment for you or your passengers regardless of who was at fault. It may also pay for lost earnings, replacement of services and funeral expenses. The minimum amount of this insurance is typically set by the state. Medical payments: This type of coverage is available in non-no-fault states and will pay no matter who is responsible for the accident. It pays for an insured person?s reasonable and necessary medical or funeral expenses for bodily injury from an accident. Collision: This pays for damage to your car caused by an accident. Comprehensive: Applies if your car is stolen or damaged by causes other than collision, including fire, wind, hail, flood or vandalism. Uninsured motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have liability insurance or by a person who cannot be identified (usually a hit-and-run driver). Under-insured motorist: This pays for damages when an insured person is injured in a crash caused by another person who does not have enough liability insurance to cover the full amount of the damages. Other coverages, like car rental and emergency road service, are also available. What you pay for auto insurance varies by company and will depend on several factors, including: * What coverage you select * The make and model of the car you drive * Your driving record * Your age, gender and marital status and * Where you live Many people think of auto insurance as a necessary evil, but it can save your financial well-being. Evaluate your needs, do your research and with the help of your insurance agent make the decision that best suits you. insurance quotes

Overman Hawaii Intl ? Companies fail to pay injured workers

Jeffrey Carter, a 45-year-old garbage truck driver, severely injured his back and neck after picking up a garbage can filled with water.

A doctor discovered likely herniated discs, but Carter?s employer, LM Waste Systems in Muscatine, did not have workers? compensation insurance.

When an Iowa deputy workers? compensation commissioner found the company and its owner, James L. Watts, were responsible, Watts was ordered to pay weekly benefits for the injury, interest and prior medical expenses. But he never did.

Carter was fired, and he has not worked since. In May, he had surgery on several vertebrae, and he?s currently unable to move his neck.

?It?s been hell,? Carter said. ?I had to go on food stamps, I have no money coming in. And I lost my mobile home because I could not make payments.?

Those who represent injured workers say they fear Carter will never get paid, and worry about the message that sends to other corporate lawbreakers.

?There needs to be a message ? that the state will come after you. This is a felony, after all,? said Andrew Mertens, a spokesman for the Iowa Association of Justice. ?These are laborers by and large. And when they are restricted from working, they don?t just lose their jobs. They lose their ability to earn income all together.?

The Iowa attorney general?s office vowed this spring to pursue court action against James Watts after workers? comp officials and attorneys complained that the garbage hauler has failed for years to insure haulers who later were seriously injured.

But because of the federal tax case looming and the size of the US treasury?s stake in its outcome, state prosecutors now question whether that would even be prudent.

Mertens said he hopes prosecutors don?t back down. He is one of several who have argued that the attorney general?s office needs to make examples of those who fail to carry workers? compensation or self-insure. In recent years, the state has yet to prosecute anyone.

One case currently under scrutiny by the attorney general?s office involves Russell Vanhorn, a 55-year-old garbage truck driver who worked for Watts? Hawkeye Waste Systems in Iowa City. Vanhorn fell 8 feet while attempting to tie down a tarp on a roll-off trash container in 2009.

The fall left him with severe abdominal pain. He was vomiting blood and required hospitalization and surgery, state records show.

After Vanhorn resigned in 2011, a deputy workers? compensation commissioner found Vanhorns injuries were not reported by the company as they should have been under law. The company acknowledged more than once that it did not have insurance to cover workers? compensation liabilities.

This month, another deputy commissioner ordered the company to pay Vanhorn disability benefits and a $25,000 penalty.

And state records show there are other hauler disabilities that have been ignored:

In 2008, Richard Lint, 53, a hauler for Watts? A-1 Disposal Services for four years, suffered a partial disability after his shoulder was struck by part of a front-loading garbage truck, a deputy worker?s compensation commissioner found. He was never paid, according to the workers? compensation division.

Mertens said Watts has shown a pattern of taking advantage of workers and renegotiating settlements with the state ?to basically manipulate workers out of money they deserve.?

?With actions like that, there?s no telling how many have been manipulated out of claims altogether.?

Carter said his paychecks routinely bounced after he started working for LM in March 2009. During that time, the state Department of Transportation also removed licenses from trucks because license fees went unpaid, he said.

?But I worked there a year and half because I needed a job at the time.?

Carter?s lawyer, David O?Brien of Cedar Rapids, said he attempted to collect both from the business and Watts personally, but he has failed.

Laura Liegois, solid waste manager for the city of Muscatine, said she is surprised the state has allowed Watts? companies to go so long without workers? compensation coverage.

?This is a very dangerous industry,? she said.

World News - Afghan family, including six children, killed in NATO ...

May 22: Rachel Maddow reports on the headlines from the NATO summit in Chicago, including supply routes to Afghanistan through Pakistan.

By Atia Abawi, NBC News in Kabul, and msnbc.com staff

KABUL - Eight civilians in one family, including six children, were killed in a NATO air strike after a field operation in Paktia province, local government officials told NBC News.

The incident took place at 8pm on Saturday in the Garda Serrai district, according the Paktia government spokesman Rohullah Samoon.

They were all members of one family, he said.

NATO said told NBC News it was taking the reports of the incident seriously and was investigating.

Samoon told Reuters said the air strike was not coordinated with Afghan security forces on the ground in the area.

Civilian casualties have been a major source of friction between President Hamid Karzai's government and U.S.-led NATO forces in Afghanistan, Reuters reported.

NATO is preparing to hand over all security responsibilities to Afghan forces and most foreign combat troops are scheduled to leave the country by the end of 2014.

Digital ChocolateSome significant changes afoot at social and mobile games company Digital Chocolate: founder Trip Hawkins has stepped down as the CEO of the company. And we have also heard a report -- yet to be confirmed directly by the company -- that president Marc Metis has stepped up as interim CEO; and that Digital Chocolate has laid off up to 180 people across offices in India, San Mateo, Russia and elsewhere. Hawkins' news was made public by Trip himself in his company blog, where he notes that he is "transitioning into a consulting and advisory relationship with Digital Chocolate." Without giving away much about the state of affairs at the company, the move, he writes, is being made as the company ?is "narrowing its focus." "It made sense to get more streamlined," he explains. Hawkins founded the company eight years ago.

If no one cheers for a hockey fight, will the fight still happen ...

May 27, 2012 by courtneyszto

Photo from ESPN.

This weekend the University of British Columbia hosted an alumni weekend and one of the events (the only one I attended!) was a panel discussion titled ? Should fighting be banned from hockey? I went with my hockey blogger hat on and was very pleased with the discussion that took place. I must commend UBC Alumni Affairs for hosting a very balanced discussion on such a controversial topic.

The panelists were:

Doug Clement ? Professor Emeritus, UBC Faculty of Medicine, former physician to the Vancouver Canucks (1992-1999), and former Olympic and Commonwealth athlete and coach.

Nazin Virji-Babul ? physical therapist and neuroscientist, Assistant Professor in UBC?s Department of Physical Therapy and a Scientist at the Child and Family Research Institute. ?She is currently investigating the impact of concussion on the structure and function of the brain in youth ice hockey players.

Michael Gaetz ? involved in the development of new procedures for the assessment and rehabilitation of concussions in athletes. He has 30 years experience playing competitive hockey and has been a Hockey Canada certified coach for over 20 years.

Ken Cavalier ? A former collegiate football and rugby player, Cavalier received his PhD from Northwestern University and a law degree from UBC. ?He teaches courses on Sports Law, Media and Entertainment Law and Law of the Olympics.

Ryan Walter ? former NHL player, Walter played for the Vancouver Canucks and won a Stanley Cup with the Montreal Canadiens. ?Walter has also been an NHL coach, hockey analyst and is currently the President of the American Hockey League?s Abbotsford Heat. (Side note: Walter was the only panelist in shorts and sandals. You can the boy out of the rink but you can?t take the rink out of the boy.)

The moderator for the session was Rick Cluff from CBC Radio One?s The Early Edition.?A podcast of the entire session is supposed to posted online, which I will add the link to at the bottom when it comes available, but if you would like the synopsis of the arguments and discussion that took place please read on.

The opening statements went as follows:

  • Doug Clement ? argues fighting should be banned but believes that the NHL would never do so because of the potential loss of revenue. He asked ? is hockey sport or entertainment? ?He contends that UFC is fighting purely for entertainment and therefore has lost the essence of sport. (Not sure I fully agree with this argument because you could really say that about any professional sport regardless of whether fighting is involved or not.)
  • Ken Cavalier ? believes that fighting should be retained in hockey for fear of the unintended consequences that might take the place of fighting. ?He argues that without fighting other forms of violence would be encouraged (he did not really clarify what these forms might be). ?Cavalier was quick to interject ?The Code? saying that there are rules of etiquette to fighting which makes it controlled violence and pointed to the Brashear and Moore incidents as independent of hockey fighting because they weren?t actually fights. He believes that more energy should be directed towards curbing head shots and concussive injuries rather than fighting.
  • Michael Gaetz ? doesn?t believe that hockey fighting is the issue if we are trying to minimize concussions. ?He explained that fighting only accounts for 10% of hockey head injuries and that falling into the boards and elbows are the culprits for the majority of concussions.
  • Nazin Virji-Babul ? argued against fighting because (1) youth look to professionals as the gold standard of the sport and (2), in her opinion, all hockey aggression stems from the ?acceptance? of fighting.
  • Ryan Walter ? explained his argument as an ?evolving opinion?. ?He was very adamant that what we see in the NHL is no longer a game, it is entertainment and every player understands the consequences of his employment, but he also said that he is not proud of the hockey fights that he took part in. ?He told the audience about how his own son received a punch during a junior hockey fight and 3 years later is not the same young man because of the concussion he received.

Personally, I have always loved a good hockey fight. ?I cheered for Rick Rypien when he could get 10 punches in before the other guy knew what was going on. ?I was also shocked and saddened when I found out about Rypien?s death. ?If there were a way to keep fighting in the game and ensure that players aren?t physically or emotionally scarred from the experience, I would say let?s do it. ?But I?m afraid the data, both anecdotal from former players and from researchers, is increasingly demonstrating that this is not possible. ?For me the big take-aways from this discussion were:

1.) Are we trying to eliminate fighting or are we trying to eliminate head trauma injuries? I think this is actually a pertinent question that isn?t posed enough. ?Are we disgusted with the barbarism of hockey fights or are we concerned about Crosby?s head? ?Which is worse for children to watch on television, a bloody fight or an unconscious player on the ice? The moderator opened the discussion by saying that perhaps Crosby?s greatest contribution to the game will not be any of his career successes but his medical record because his concussions have brought head traumas to the forefront of hockey conversations.?I think the Crobsy, Kariya and Sedin injuries are all examples of terrible concussions that have nothing to do with hockey fighting. ?Now if we take Virji-Babul?s argument that fighting is the foundation upon which other malicious hits are spawned then maybe we are talking about the same animal. ?If we think about head shots, hits from behind and flying elbows as a form of intimidation then maybe they serve the same purpose as fighting. ?Maybe elbowing should now warrant an ejection from the game? Will that make the game safer?

2.) Doug Clement argued that the players aren?t responsible for any of the malicious hits, rather the referees are at fault. ?He contended that if referees were able to see the ice better and stuck to enforcing the rules rather than ?letting them play? it would be a safer game. ?He also thinks that incorporating video-replays and more refs on the sidelines watching those videos (footballesque, I suppose) would make players more accountable for their actions. ?Clement then argued that there is less fighting in international hockey because the ice is bigger (promoting a skating game), there is better rule enforcement by the referees and because the culture is different. ?The rebuttal from Gaetz was that despite the fact that there is no fighting allowed in the Swedish Elite League their rates of concussion are similar to those of the NHL, hovering around 12-13%. ?Thus, this brings us back to point #1 ? are we trying to eliminate fighting or make hockey safer? They seem like the same argument but the statistics add an interesting dynamic to the discussion.

3.) Ryan Walter spoke about parents putting too much emphasis on their children making the pros. ?In Canada, we have over 500,000 children participating in ice hockey and less than 1% of those children will make the NHL, but every parent believes that their kid is in that 1%. ?He said that he has found young players texting the ?goon? on the opposing team before games to set up a fight during the second shift of the third period. ?Walters argues that the funnel of Canadian hockey starts very broad but closes very quickly and arguably, the pressure put on children by their parents makes them think that fighting is a viable route to get to the pros.

Walter came back to the point of parents and coaches repeatedly, which I thought was very intruiging. ?He argued that the professionals do not have nearly as much emphasis on children watching than do their own coaches; and, said that there has been ?an abdication of leadership at the lower levels? with too much emphasis placed on the NHL.?The NHL, in his opinion, is not going to change its tune because it is driven by revenues but each minor hockey coach has the ability to influence twenty kids. ?Thus, he thinks that more resources should be put into proper coaching because, as we all know in North America, its Billy?s dad or Annie?s mom who is coaching the local team. But is Billy?s dad or Annie?s mom properly equipped with the knowledge and values to coach our children? ?Walter argued that in Europe coaches must have coaching certifications, and much more intensive certifications than the 2-hour sessions provided by provincial hockey associations in Canada.

4.) Virji-Babul asked ? what would happen if fans didn?t cheer for hockey fights? ?I thought this was a provocative thought, kind of like ? if a tree falls in the forest and there?s no one there to hear it does it make a noise? It would be interesting if two heavy weights circled up ready to fight and the stadium went silent, or people started leaving. ?The reply from Walter was that as a player he doesn?t remember anyone from the stands. ?As high performance athletes they are trained to focus on the task at hand and nothing else. ?Nonetheless, I would counter that we have seen enough players come out of a fight egging on the crowd and waving their finger in the air that clearly they do notice the audience from time to time.

5.) Doug Clement asked ? has there ever been an enforcer who wasn?t from North America? The moderator argued that Chara could be considered an enforcer but I?m not sure how intimidating he would be if he were 6?0. ?It has become quite apparent that vigilante/frontier justice is very much aligned with Canadian (North American) ideals of masculinity but hockey is now a global game so should we account for multiple interpretations of masculinity or do we keep fighting because it has origins in the game? Do you hold on to tradition or progress with the times?

6.) A comment from the audience came from a dad who coaches minor hockey in London, Ontario. His team was being used as research subjects for a concussion study and once the OHL (Ontario Hockey League) caught wind of unfavourable results the OHL banned the research team from continuing their research. ?Makes me wonder how often these types of things happen. Obviously the fear is that if hockey data proves that it is extremely dangerous rates of participation will decrease but why are we not jumping on the chance to make the greatest game on earth, in my opinion, safer so that more people can enjoy it?

In conclusion, I think Walter?s point of increasing responsibility onto parents and junior coaches is an important one. So often we chastise our athletes for being poor role models but there is very little research proving that role models as distant as those we watch on television have any impact on our individual behaviours. ?What does have an impact on our behaviours are mentors ? people with whom we have regular contact. ?I think what many of us want is for the game to remain fast and hard hitting but to minimize the risks as best we can. ?I would argue that after this panel discussion that the larger concern is ?more surrounding head trauma than fighting. ?What I did not hear anyone talk about was the emotional and mental toll fighting takes on enforcers. ?This, I think, might be a stronger argument against the elimination of fighting. I suppose we could argue that the emotional toll that Rypien and Boogaard underwent was connected to the head traumas they received from fighting but I think the anticipation and fear of fighting can just be as debilitating.

I should also mention that former Canuck enforcer, Gino Odjick, was in attendance at the discussion. He still has his fighting form but no one really made a fuss about him being there. ?During the question period he raised his hand to try and get a microphone. ?They didn?t have time for his question and I don?t think the volunteers really knew who they had in the audience, which was unfortunate because I, for one, really wanted to know what Gino had to say about the subject at hand.

7 Items To complete Before Getting Travel Insurance | Jixxer the ...

Going back to Roman occasions, dangers have already been shared during times of tragedy and unforeseen situations, this kind of as earthquakes, floods as well as the like. The first formal and recorded insurance firm, Lloyd?s of London, was formed in 1769 and their founding principal remains intact nowadays ? to gather the premiums of clients as being a pool of assets in order to return to consumers who experience sudden and unforeseen but covered occasions. So, that is certainly the secret actually, strategy for the sudden and unforeseen and be sure you?re covered, specially when you are travelling. Regardless of whether your trip can be a quick a single or even a round the world cruise, there are various very good reasons for travel insurance. Right here are just 7 things you must do just before you buy your travel insurance:

Whatever you do, please discover the market and educate oneself with every one of the terms and terminologies in the travel insurance coverage cover which will allow you to to avail the best travel insurance coverage.

Certainly examine what is integrated in your travel insurance coverage policy but most importantly, examine what is EXCLUDED out of your travel insurance coverage policy.

Research the area you will. What is the weather probably to become like Is there any danger of hurricanes or tropical storms Floods How about Mosquito borne illness What?s the crime rate like What ever the perceived dangers your analysis uncovers then ensure that your travel insurance coverage covers you for that eventuality. It?s no great following the event to determine that you just are not covered for rabid canine attacks (due to the fact you?ll find so many in that specific region).

Discuss Your Existing Health-related Problems and Needs ? You will need to carefully assess your likely health-related requirements and make sure that they are declared towards the travel insurance business.

If you intend to drive be sure that you just are adequately covered. Numerous employ firms charge astronomic excesses in case of an accident. Ensure which you insured for that excess (and it will likely be a lot less costly than paying the hire company?s rates for that identical cover).

Make certain you?ve got the essential documentation for travel in that nation. Take Spain as an example which can be element of the European community and can supply cost-free well being care say to an UK citizen on holiday or residing there. You?ll find particular situations, one among which is that you just must have an UK E111 type, in the event you do not have that, you will not be treated. You have to also visit a nationwide health hospital, which are not in abundance in specific locations of Spain.

If travelling in Europe, it might pay to acquire an EHIC (European Well being Insurance coverage Card) as this will likely eliminate lots of be concerned ought to you?ll need any emergency therapy.

Okay, so there you might have it. 7 issues to complete before buying travel insurance coverage for the subsequent trip you make. The other substitute of course is always to not take out travel insurance, or to remain in your own home. Now, there?s an concept. But seriously, as usually when taking out insurance coverage, specifically travel insurance, examine the fine print very first. Importantly, find out ahead of you go what is excluded, not just integrated. So, constantly go through the fine print. For example, accidental coverage just isn?t provided in situation of drunken driving, driving under the influence of narcotic substances and so forth. Exclusions are also offered for accidents during risky sports like bungee jumping, car racing, (insert to your favourite probably hazardous sport right here), scuba diving, white water rafting, flying (except as passenger in standard airliners), gliding, skiing, bike racing, diving, mountaineering, windsurfing and so on. The list goes on. That indicates in case of accidents in these scenarios the insurance organization just isn?t liable to shell out any sum to the insured.

Bountiful bikinis at Rio fashion week

(AP) ? Just how many variations can you spin off the marvel of simplicity that is the bikini?

Judging by the options on spectacular display at FashionRio, the Marvelous City's five-day-long summer 2013 fashion extravaganza, the options are endless.

Fancy pairing your string bikini top with spandex pants hung with rows of seductively dangling fringe, which provide so much more coverage than the country's traditional "fio dental" or "dental floss" bottoms? Rio's got just the thing for you.

Toying with the idea of kitting out your two-piece with a chain mail sheath emblazoned with a palm tree? Look no further.

Bikinis are Brazilian designers' bread and butter, so while their winter collections tend to fall flat, with half-hearted attempts at outerwear, summer reliably sizzles. And the southern hemisphere summer collections that will hit the beach this coming January were no exception.

Sao Paulo-based label Triya served up the season's most eye-popping options, a psychedelic rainbow that broke the beachwear mold. Beyond the fringed pant bikini, the brand's brainchild, were tiny bottoms paired with long sleeve spandex tops cropped short to show off the models' abs and a zebra-printed bandeau top that sprouted an ankle length skirt in aubergine silk with a bold slit up one side.

Swimsuits more in name than in function, many of Triya's offerings looked like what you might wear to an ultra-chic beachside rave thrown by a billionaire. Putting aside the inevitable inconveniences of wearing a flowing silk ball gown to the beach, the only drawback to the wildly creative offerings were the bizarre tan lines they'd be sure to leave.

Cia. Maritima brought out the big guns - Victoria's Secret angel Izabel Goulart among other Brazilian-born supermodels - to show off its teeny-weeny bikinis. Goulart rocked the catwalk in a leopard print string bikini fitted with a sexy spider's web of thin yellow straps. Aline Weber, a regular on top runways in New York and Paris, worked a one-piece with cute cap sleeves and bold cutouts at the midriff. The pineapple prints gave a mouthwateringly tropical touch to the toothsome collection.

Va-va-voom one-pieces emerged as major winners here, with just about everyone who is anyone in Brazilian swimwear sending out variations on the vampish maillot. Top high-street beachwear label Blue Man sent out white swimsuits decidedly not made for anyone's grandma, with how-low-can-you-go V necks. And a strapless one-piece had hiplines that started at just under the bust, the whole seemingly precarious contraption held, one can only hope, in place by a low-slung belt.

Lenny, Brazil's reigning queen of patrician swimwear, served up racerback tanks that looked like they'd been tagged by a Rio graffiti artist and bikinis whose fuller coverage was undermined by a cat claw of strategically placed slashes. Paired with the bikini tops, the short, flippy skirts would make for the perfect transition from the sands of Ipanema to cocktail hour at the beachfront Hotel Fasano, among Rio's chicest and most expensive.

A raucous, theatrical show by streetwear label Reserva wrapped up FashionRio in style late Saturday.

Models of all ages, from toddlers to septuagenarians, and several ethnicities frolicked, skipped and breakdanced on a catwalk strewn, like a sprawling bourgeois home, with couches and armchairs and an oversized dining room table. The soundtrack pumped as the models sat down for a family lunch and then boogied over the photographers' pit to pull off their best dance moves in front of the snapping flashbulbs.

With its preppy multi-ethnic family vibe, the show had a sort of Abercrombie & Fitch thing going, but at the same time felt more authentically Brazilian than many of the week's other shows, most of which featured just a sprinkling of nonwhite models.

How Can a Featured Deal Help a Business? | MyDealCompass ...

In addition to the usual great deals businesses can offer on myDealCompass, there are also featured deals that businesses can post for a small fee. A featured deal is one that gets highlighted on the myDealCompass website and in mobile apps for iPhone and Android smartphones. The deal is also placed on the Deal Map?with a special icon where customers can easily find it. Businesses sign up for the featured deal by clicking on a specific day on the calendar located on their dashboards. It?s a great way to advertise new products or to tell customers about other products they do not know about.

So for example, your business may have been posting deals for frozen yogurt on myDealCompass for awhile, but what about that new spring flavor that you are introducing to your frozen yogurt lineup? Cherry watermelon may be a big hit with your customers, but only if they know about it. Give them a featured deal on myDealCompass so that they can try it at a discount and decide for themselves if cherry watermelon frozen yogurt is going to be the favorite frozen yogurt flavor in your area this spring. Your business gets a boost to its sales, and your customers find a reason to keep coming back for more frozen yogurt.

Remember, the Deal Map often becomes the focal point for customers signing in to their myDealCompass accounts. They start to get into the habit of plugging their locations into the Deal Map search box on a daily basis to see what deals are being offered. A featured deal catches customers? attention right away as they log in.

HBT: Santana pitches first shutout in 2 years

It?s safe to say that Johan Santana is back.

In an effort which was both dominant and efficient, Santana tossed a four hit-shutout this afternoon at Citi Field as part of a 9-0 victory over the light-hitting Padres. All four hits he gave up were singles and he threw 74 out of 96 pitches for strikes. He struck out seven and didn?t issue a walk.

Santana has been the victim of low run support this season, but that wasn?t an issue for him today. The Mets scored four runs off Clayton Richard in the first inning on homers from Scott Hairston and Vinny Rottino and tacked on five more in the ninth inning against former Met Dale Thayer, including a grand slam by Mike Nickeas.

This was the 14th shutout of Santana?s career and his first since August 10, 2010 against the Rockies. Sure, the Padres are one of the worst offensive teams in the sport, but today?s outing was an important benchmark for someone who missed all of last season while rehabbing from shoulder surgery. The 33-year-old southpaw hadn?t lasted longer than seven innings in any of his previous nine starts this year.

While Santana?s velocity isn?t what it was prior to surgery, he has an outstanding 2.75 ERA and 60/16 K/BB ratio over 59 innings this season. That?ll work.

Unabomber gets entry in Harvard's 50th reunion book

Elaine Thompson / AP file

Ted Kaczynski, known as the Unabomber, is currently in a Supermax prison in Colorado.

By msnbc.com news services

BOSTON -- Harvard University alumni attending their 50th class reunion this week are getting updates on classmates, but one person stands out among those sharing news about career moves, retirements and grandkids:?Unabomber Ted Kaczynski.

Kaczynski graduated in 1962 and is locked up in the federal Supermax prison in Colorado for killing three people and injuring 23 during a nationwide bombing spree between 1978 and 1995. In an alumni directory, he lists his occupation as "prisoner" and says his awards are "Eight life sentences, issued by the United States District Court for the Eastern District of California, 1998."

The "Harvard and Radcliffe Classes of 1962 -- Fiftieth Anniversary Report" also included Kaczynski?in its state-by-state listings, calling him a Colorado resident, reported The Boston Globe.

Kaczynski's nine-line entry, which also lists one publication under his name - "Technological Slavery," published by Feral?House in 2010 -?contrasted with many other lengthy updates from other alumni on their lives. Kaczynski's 2010 book included his so-called "manifesto," which was published by The Washington Post and The New York Times in exchange for Kaczynski's promise to end his bombing campaign back in the 1990s.

The widow of one of his victims told The Boston Globe she was disappointed Harvard printed the Unabomber's entry.

Susan Mosser, whose husband Thomas Mosser?was killed in 1994 when a package exploded in their New Jersey home, told the Globe, ?Kaczynski is a con artist. He?s a serial killer; he?s a murderer ...?Everything is a game for him to push people?s buttons.?

It's a decision the Harvard alumni association now regrets.

"While all members of the class who submit entries are included, we regret publishing Kaczynski's references to his convictions and apologize for any distress that it may have caused others," the Harvard Alumni Association said in a statement Wednesday evening.

The alumni association said all class members, including Kaczynski, were invited to submit entries for the class report, distributed for reunion activities during commencement week.

A Harvard spokesman said the update was submitted by Kaczynski but could not immediately say how the university confirmed that. A message seeking comment was left with Kaczynski's attorney.

Classmate: 'He could have become one of the greatest mathematicians'
Kaczynski is a Harvard-trained mathematician who also got master's and doctoral degrees from the University of Michigan.

In The Harvard Crimson "Commencement 2012/1962 Reunion Issue,"?published this week, one of Kaczynski's 1962 classmates recalled him as "brilliant."

?It?s just an opinion, but Ted was brilliant,? said Wayne Persons, who also lived in the same suite at Harvard as Kacznski. ?I think it was a huge tragedy. He could have become one of the greatest mathematicians in the country. He wasn?t a domestic terrorist when I knew him.?

Others remembered him as a loner.

?He would just rush through the suite, go into his room, and slam the door,? Patrick McIntosh, another suitemate and Harvard graduate from 1962, told The Crimson. ?And when we would go into his room there would be piles of books and uneaten sandwiches that would make the place smell.?

Kaczynski entered Harvard at just 16 years old. One of his other classmates recalled sitting at the same dining table with him from time to time.

?He was very quiet, but personable,? John Federico told The Crimson. ?He would enter into the discussions maybe a little less so than most ... but he was certainly friendly. He was younger, and he seemed to be on the shy side, so you needed to make some effort to draw him in. But he could do that.?

Kaczynski later lived as a recluse in a Montana cabin, railed against technology and led authorities on the nation's longest and costliest manhunt. He was caught in 1996 when his brother recognized his idiosyncratic writings and tipped off authorities.

Kaczynski pleaded guilty two years later to avoid a trial at which his lawyer had planned to offer an insanity defense. The guilty plea also saved him from the death penalty.

Items seized from his cabin were auctioned last year by the U.S. Marshals Service for more than $200,000 to benefit his victims.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

World powers, Iran discuss detail of possible nuclear deal

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Iran and world powers exchanged unusually detailed proposals at talks in Baghdad on Wednesday in hopes of defusing a long, volatile standoff over suspicions Tehran's atomic energy program may be a disguised quest for nuclear weapons.

The stakes could hardly be higher: global oil markets are jittery over extended Western sanctions imposed on Iran's vital crude exports and the specter of a Middle East war arising from possible Israeli strikes against its defiant arch-enemy.

But no breakthrough appeared to be in the offing in Baghdad, where the six powers were testing Iran's willingness to curb its uranium enrichment work. Differences remained, notably, over when Iran would be rewarded with relief from economic sanctions.

After a 15-month diplomatic freeze and exploratory talks in Istanbul last month, envoys for Iran and the United States, Russia, China, France, Britain and Germany convened with both sides publicly upbeat about the scope for an outline deal.

"We had a detailed exchange this morning," said a Western diplomat who spoke of the six powers presenting a "package" of proposals in the morning. "The atmosphere was businesslike."

In the afternoon, another diplomat said, Iran reacted to the offers and "also broadened out the discussions to touch on other areas we see as non-core issues".

Iranian media close to the Tehran government said its chief negotiator Saeed Jalili presented a five-point package covering a "comprehensive" range of nuclear and non-nuclear issues.

The official news agency IRNA sounded a note of discord by quoting Iranian officials as referring to the big-power proposal as "nitpicking" while student news agency ISNA said: "Apparently from the Iranian point of view this package is not balanced."

However, those leaks did not appear to be Tehran's final response as the talks ran on into the evening.

The powers' overall goal is an Iranian agreement to curb uranium enrichment in a transparent, verifiable way to ensure it is for peaceful purposes only. Iran's priority is to secure an end to sanctions isolating the country and damaging its economy.

The pivotal proposal by the six, led by European Union foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton, was for Iran to halt its enrichment of uranium to the higher fissile concentration of 20 percent, her spokesman Michael Mann said as talks got under way.

That is the Iranian nuclear advance most worrying to the West since it largely overcomes technical obstacles to reaching 90-percent, or bomb-grade, enrichment. Iran says it is enhancing the fissile purity to such a degree only for medical research.

"We have a new offer on the table which addresses our main concerns about the Iranian nuclear program. The 20-percent enrichment question," Mann told reporters. "We hope the Iranians respond positively and we can make progress today."

In a separate interview with Iran's state-run English-language Press TV, Mann said no final deal was expected in Baghdad because progress was likely to be only gradual.

He said toughened sanctions, especially an EU ban on Iranian oil exports due to take full effect on July 1, had helped to draw Iran finally into serious negotiations.

Iran has hinted at flexibility on higher-grade enrichment although analysts caution that it would be unlikely to compromise much while sanctions remain in place.

In previous meetings the two sides could not even agree an agenda, with each largely repeating known positions and Tehran refusing any dialogue on changes to its nuclear path.

Ashton aides did not rule out talks extending into Thursday.

IRAN HOPES FOR "GOOD NEWS" SOON

Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi, speaking to reporters in Tehran, said: "The ideas fielded to us speak of the fact that the other side would like to make Baghdad a success. We hope that in a day or two we can bring good news."

Salehi also warned that Iran would not bow to pressure: "Their policies of pressure and intimidation are futile. They have to adopt policies to show goodwill to solve this issue."

Russia said the Islamic Republic appeared ready for serious discussion of substantive steps to resolve the impasse in return for the phased removal of sanctions.

Speaking of preparatory discussions before Baghdad, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in Moscow: "We got the clear impression ... that the Iranian side is ready to seek agreement on concrete actions." These would be taken step by step.

Another proposed step will be an updated version of an idea first floated in 2009 that envisaged Iran shipping out the bulk of its stockpile of low-grade uranium - which is potential nuclear weapons fuel - in return for higher-enriched fuel for the medical research reactor in Tehran, a diplomat said.

It was unclear whether that idea would gain traction after Iran's announcement on Tuesday that it had supplied its first batch of domestically made fuel to that reactor - a message probably meant to boost its leverage in negotiations.

The Islamic Republic launched higher-grade enrichment two years ago and has since transferred the operation to a bunkered, underground plant at Fordow that, to Israeli alarm, would be largely impervious to attack from the air.

"The key issue is the 20-percent enrichment potential. This has to be addressed in order to have a productive outcome," said one Western diplomat. "The marching orders for Baghdad are to have concrete ideas on the table, maybe not necessarily agree on all details of these ideas, but to have a clear commitment."

Iran, a major oil exporter, says it is enriching uranium for electricity. That requires fuel refined to 5 percent, although it will be many years before power stations are built. It also wants radioactive isotopes for cancer treatment.

Tehran has repeatedly ruled out suspending enrichment as called for by several U.N. Security Council resolutions.

DEAL ON EXPANDED U.N. INSPECTIONS "CLOSE"

In a possible sign of a new Iranian willingness to address concerns about its atomic ambitions, the U.N. nuclear supervisor said on Tuesday he expected to sign a deal soon to unblock an investigation into suspected attempts to design a nuclear weapon.

But Western officials note past failures to carry out deals on more intrusive inspections between the International Atomic Energy Agency and Iran, and their patience is running out.

Iran suggested it would try to parlay its reported rapprochement with the IAEA into a deal in Baghdad to relax sanctions inflicting increasing damage on its economy, including a European Union oil embargo due to take effect in July.

But Western officials ruled out such a weighty concession so soon, even though their call for a "step-by-step" negotiating process is widely seen as a tacit admission that sanctions will have to be eased at some point.

"Sanctions are only going to be lifted if we have significant and genuine progress," one diplomat said.

Israel, widely assumed to have the Middle East's only atomic arsenal, has loudly expressed its skepticism about the chances for diplomacy to rein in its major adversary.

Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Israel was concerned that the world powers would not press hard enough to put a full stop its nuclear program and that Israel would keep all options open - an allusion to military action - to achieve that goal.
